Five Steps to Get Started Using UDL

What is this resource?
This document condenses the big pieces of UDL implementation from Design and Deliver: Planning and Teaching Using Universal Design for Learning. The five steps include (1) Have a clear goal, (2) Design using the principle of engagement, (3) Design using the principle of representation, (4) Design using the principle of action and expression, and (5) Reflect on your students’ outcomes and how they interact with the goal, supports, and strategies.

Why is it valuable?
UDL can be intimidating, so having a strategy of approach can be helpful. By breaking implementation down to these five steps, any teacher can begin practicing and reflecting on his or her use of the framework.
